Getting started
What is Paperpoly?+
Paperpoly is a free paper trading simulator built on top of Polymarket's live prediction markets. You get $1,000 in virtual paper money to place bets on real-world events — politics, crypto, sports, and more — without risking a single cent of real money.
Is real money involved?+
No. Every dollar you see on Paperpoly is virtual. You cannot deposit, withdraw, or lose real money. It's a safe environment to practise forecasting and test your intuition against live market odds.
Do I need to verify my identity?+
No KYC, no ID verification. Just sign up with an email address (or Google) and you're in.
Who can use Paperpoly?+
Anyone aged 18 or over. You don't need to be in a specific country — paper trading is legal everywhere.
Placing bets
How do I place a bet?+
Browse the Markets page, click into any market, pick YES or NO, drag the stake slider to your amount, then hit the Buy button. Your bet is recorded instantly and your bankroll is debited.
What are the odds displayed in?+
Odds are shown in cents (¢). A 70¢ YES price means the market implies a 70% probability that the event happens. If you buy YES at 70¢ and it resolves YES, you receive $1 per share — a 43¢ profit per share.
What is the maximum stake per bet?+
Up to $500 per individual bet. This keeps the game balanced and prevents any single position from dominating your portfolio.
Can I edit or cancel a bet after placing it?+
No. Once a bet is placed it's final, just like a real prediction market. Think carefully before you confirm.
What is a thesis note?+
An optional private note where you can record why you're taking a position. It's only visible to you and helps you review your reasoning after the market resolves.
Bankroll & resolution
What happens when a market resolves?+
Paperpoly checks Polymarket's official resolution data every day. When a market settles, your open bets are automatically marked won or lost and your bankroll is updated. You'll receive an email summary if you have notifications enabled.
My bet resolved but my bankroll hasn't updated — what do I do?+
Automatic resolution runs once per day. If it's been more than 24 hours, go to Portfolio → find the bet → mark it manually as won or lost. Manual resolution is always available as a fallback.
My bankroll hit zero. Can I get more?+
Yes — go to Settings → Danger Zone and use the Reset Bankroll option to restore your balance to $1,000 and start fresh. It also resets your stats.
What is P&L?+
Profit and Loss — the net amount you've gained or lost across all resolved bets. A positive P&L means you've made more on winning bets than you've lost on losing ones.
Leaderboard & scoring
How is the leaderboard ranked?+
By ROI (return on investment) — calculated as total P&L divided by total amount staked on resolved bets. You need at least 3 resolved bets to appear in the ranked section. This prevents someone from topping the board with a single lucky bet.
What is a Brier score?+
A measure of forecasting accuracy that penalises overconfidence. A lower Brier score is better. You can see yours in the Analytics tab.
What is XP and how do I earn it?+
XP tracks your activity level: +10 per resolved bet, +25 per win, +2 per open bet, +15 per daily streak, and a small bonus for profits above your starting balance. Your XP determines your level (Rookie → Bettor → Analyst → Sharp → Expert → Legend).
Badges
What are the badges I see next to usernames?+
Badges are earned automatically based on your trading record:
⭐ Pro+
Awarded to Pro subscribers.
💎 Sharp+
Win rate ≥ 60% with at least 5 resolved bets.
🐋 Whale+
Total amount staked across all bets exceeds $500.
🎯 Accurate+
Win rate ≥ 75% with at least 10 resolved bets.
🔥 Hot+
3 wins in a row.
🏆 Top Trader+
Total profit (P&L) exceeds $500.
Battles
What is a Battle?+
A head-to-head competition against another user. You challenge someone to a timeframe (1, 3, 7, 14, or 30 days) and whoever earns more P&L from resolved bets during that window wins.
How do I start a Battle?+
Go to the Battles page, type the username of the person you want to challenge, choose a timeframe, add an optional taunt, and send the challenge. They have to accept before it becomes active.
What happens if the Battle is a draw?+
If both players have identical P&L at the end of the window, the battle ends with no winner declared.
Referrals
How does the referral programme work?+
Share your unique link from the Referral page. When a friend signs up and places their first bet, both of you receive a $200 paper money bonus — credited automatically.
Is there a limit on referrals?+
You can refer up to 20 friends. Referral bonuses are in virtual paper money only — no real cash.
My referral bonus hasn't appeared — what should I do?+
The bonus is triggered when your friend places their first bet. If it's been more than an hour after that and still hasn't appeared, contact us at support@paperpoly.io.
Pro plan
What is Pro?+
A $9/month upgrade that unlocks advanced analytics, market alerts, a Pro badge, unlimited battles, CSV data export, and early access to new features.
Does Pro involve real trading?+
No. Pro is purely a subscription for extra platform features. All trading remains paper (virtual) money.
How do I cancel Pro?+
Go to Settings → Security → Manage subscription, or email support@paperpoly.io. Your Pro benefits continue until the end of the billing period.
Account & privacy
How do I change my password?+
Settings → Security → Change Password. You'll need to enter your current password and confirm the new one (minimum 8 characters).
How do I delete my account?+
Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account. Type DELETE to confirm. This permanently removes your account, profile, and all bets — it cannot be undone.
Does Paperpoly sell my data?+
No. We don't sell or share your personal data with third parties. Anonymised, aggregated trading data may be used to improve the platform. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
I found a bug — how do I report it?+
Email support@paperpoly.io with a description of what happened and your browser/device. Screenshots always help.
